Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was born on November 30, 1977
in Miami, Florida. American electro house music producer D.J., and record
producer Steve Aoki is his nickname. Music executive. He's the 3rd child of
Chizuru Kobayashi and Rocky Aoki. His father, who was a former wrestler, was
also the co-founder of the chain of restaurants Benihana. There are two
siblings that include sister Kana who is frequently called Grace due to her
middle name Grace as well as brother Kevin (owner of Doraku Sushi). His
half-sister is Devon Aoki, a model and actress. He was raised in Newport Beach
and graduated from Newport Harbor High School with a 1995 B.A. in badminton. He
went on to UC Santa Barbara and graduated with a 2nd B.A. He graduated with two
degrees in sociology and one in feminist studies. He was a student at the
college who made records on his own and hosted underground music in his Biko
area at the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative. The Pickle Patch was
born as a concert venue. He was active in student activism , and he founded a
Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League section on campus. In his early 20s, Dim
Mak had founded his own record company, that he named Dim Mak in honor of his
childhood hero Bruce Lee. In March 2010 the singer came out with I'm in the
House, a collaboration with the Zuper Blahq-like alter-ego of the Black Eyed
Peas singer will.i.am. The song was ranked No. 29 on the U.K. singles chart in
the first week. The track later made it into the U.K. Dance Chart & the
U.K. Indie Chart, being among the top 5 on both charts. It was seen on MTV's
Jersey Shore, as well as in the feature film Piranha and the trailer for Think
Like A Man. Producer and songwriter Lucas Secon confirmed in a interview in May
2010 with HitQuarters, that he and Rivers Cuomo had recently worked together
with Aoki on a single. Pollstar declared him the top-grossing North America
dance artist from shows in 2012. His collaborations with artists include
Afrojack, LMFAO and Linkin Park, Will.i.am. Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke.
