Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 in 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was the leader of the 2012 "Fierce Five", and"Fierce Five," and the 2016 "Final Five,"" U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She was awarded a gold team medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans who have won back-to-back gold medals from this event. Raisman was also awarded silver in the individual all around and floor exercise. Raisman also won silver medals in the individual all-around as well as for floor exercise. She is also two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She also is a five-time national champion in all-around at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast, as well as Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman who is Jewish and has stated that she is very proud in being able not only to represent the American people, but as well as the Jewish community around the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when she was eighteen months old. She credits her first interest in the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. She then joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 after having completed her senior year online classes , while preparing to compete in the Olympics.
